After a summer of quarantine, Karina and I were feeling brave and decided to take the kayaks on a trip around the outside of Belle Isle. It was the toughest trip we've taken in the kayaks, between the wind, deep water, and passing boats this was a challenging paddle.

We dropped in on the north (Detroit side) of the island, behind the DYC, say halfway to hipster beach. From there we went east around the far side of the island. The shipping lane is on the Southside of the island and almost as soon as we rounded the easternmost tip you could feel the difference in the waves and the current. Thankfully there are plenty of small beaches to pull up to and take a rest, we hit several.

Once we made it past Sunset Point (the Westernmost point of the island and best view of Downtown Detroit) the ride was back to smooth sailing. I didn't have the Strava app downloaded yet, so I don't have specifics on how many miles and the time we spent out there, but I believe the trip is about 5 miles and it took us (with plenty of stops) 5 hours.
